Medically Trained First Aid Instructor

Providing Medically-led Training for Local Communities

Our instructor - Dr Caitlyn McKay, MBChB, BSC Medical Science, RQF level 3

Dr Caitlyn is an NHS hospital doctor with over a decade of experience across a wide range of specialties, including Accident & Emergency, Paediatrics, Obstetrics, Acute Medicine, General Surgery, Psychiatry, and Community Medicine.

Her career has taken her from busy urban hospitals to the remotest parts of rural Scotland, where the 'ambulance' was not uncommonly a boat or helicopter.

With a good sense of humour and an approachable manner, she uses videos and photos of real-life emergencies to demonstrate what to look for to distinguish unwell from dying.

"If you want to distinguish emergency (now!), from urgent (the next four hours), from 'needs attention today or tomorrow', then train with me."

What do I do whilst waiting for the ambulance?

"Currently, with the intense pressures facing our ambulance service, it's not uncommon for ordinary people to be managing medical emergencies for extended periods before help arrives.

Many First Aiders have told me that their prior training did not adequately prepare them for the reality of the role. I address this gap by providing a structured way to extend your care for a casualty beyond the first five minutes."

Mission & Commitment:

Why High-quality, Safe Training Matters

When you train with Dr McKay, you're not just learning from a manual — you're learning from real frontline experience. Her sessions are practical, interactive, and grounded in real-life medicine. Clients consistently tell us they value her training because it's:

  • Relevant to the real world

everything we cover comes from years of hands-on experience in emergency medicine, not just from a textbook.

  • Practically applicable

common pitfalls, simple tricks, and techniques to manage those unexpected stumbling blocks distinguish the competent from the knowledgeable

  • Safe to ask questions

an instructor who is passionate about both the subject and teaching makes a huge difference.

  • Unrushed

there's time to practise, talk things through, and make sure everyone genuinely understands what to do.

We are a one-instructor business, and that's important to us. When you book a course, you're booking Dr McKay — not a faceless trainer from a pool. She personally delivers every session and can customise each course to your industry, workplace environment, or specific risks — all at no extra cost.

All of our courses are OFQUAL and FAA regulated, ensuring they meet nationally recognised standards for content, assessment, and certification. You'll receive high-quality, accredited training — delivered with the care and attention that only a small, doctor-led business can provide.

"As a medically trained first aid instructor, I aim to make every session engaging, relevant, and genuinely useful. Whether you're a complete beginner or refreshing your existing skills, my aim is that you leave not only qualified — but truly confident in your ability to make a difference when it matters most."
